SHARON GOLD’S STUDIO

Sharon Gold's studio in Crown Heights, Brooklyn will open its doors in 2025 reimagined as an art residency and curatorial research site. In the studio, a new generation will interface with Gold's practice as one of the most influential yet least understood female abstract painters of the 1970s and 1980s. The studio houses a large and well-preserved storage of Gold's works and studio detritus, allowing visitors to explore the artist's full trajectory over her ongoing 50-year career for the first time. In the studio, Gold's rarely seen figurative paintings made after her retreat from the commercial art world provide new context to the profound legacy of her abstractions from the 1970s and 1980s that are the subject of significant critical discussion. The full scope of Gold's practice is on display, and the studio's opening allows for unprecedented insight into the life and work of Sharon Gold, redefining Gold's position in the historical canon of abstract painting in New York.
